
Rules

Films must be original work of applicants. There should be no “copied or borrowed” content in the short film

Actors in the film must be local US residents only. Senior actors could be the parent of US resident but film shooting should be done in the US Only.

This is a short film festival and hence ONLY Short Films should be submitted NO DOCUMENTARIES and NO COMPLETE ANIMATIONS

DURATION: The films shall not be more than 20 (Twenty) minutes (1200 seconds), including the beginning and end credits. Films exceeding this time limit are liable to be rejected. The minimum length should be 10 minutes including credits.

The short films must be in the Kannada language only, can also include subtitles in ENGLISH.

Films submitted previously to any other festival will not be considered. If found later, will be disqualified for awards.

COPYRIGHT: The Film must not contain any copyrighted work(s) belonging to third parties unless (1) Participants have a license to use such works in the Film; or (2) the use participant’s film makes of such works is a fair one under the copyright laws(such as background music or sound effects). Participants will retain any licenses and provide them to organizers upon request.

The decision of the jury shall be final, unquestionable, and binding on all participants.

If a film is based upon another person’s life or upon a book or other underlying work, the applicant(s) must secure all necessary rights to make such adaptations. However, it is not necessary to submit the adaptation rights agreements. Neither the AKS nor its jurists will investigate or attest to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights secured. By entering the competition, you represent that you have secured all necessary rights.

Participants can leverage professional technicians for making short films as per their convenience. TKSFF group will not be responsible for facilitating or coordinating with professional technicians.

Applicants are solely responsible for obtaining all necessary rights and permissions for third-party materials included in their films, including but not limited to music, trademarks, logos, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. AKS expressly disclaims all liability or responsibility for any violations of the foregoing.

All genres allowed. Action, Adventure, Comedy, Crime/Gangster, Drama, Epics/Historical, Horror, Musicals/Dance, Thriller, etc.

There are no restrictions on the number of people in the film and no restriction on the age limit.

Films MUST not contain – Political Bias, Demeaning (religious, caste, country, vulgar, and/or adult content (applies to the content overall or the dialogues used). Any such case will disqualify the entry.

A Release of Liability Form (ROL) dictates that the party participating will not hold AKS responsible for things like personal injury, death, or loss of property.

AKS explicitly disclaims any liability or responsibility for any comments, notes, or opinions expressed about a submission, whether by AKS or by its volunteers

I/We understand and commit to not hold Austin Kannada Sangha (AKS) and AKS committee members responsible for any harm from health or any other situations related to the COVID-19 pandemic and that we are solely responsible for all actions regarding preparation, direction, and shooting of the short film.
COPYRIGHTS
Video copyrights belong to AKS and will not be used for commercial purposes. The main purpose of this initiative is to bring all Kannadigas of Texas State together to promote survival and continued vitality of kannada language with NO intent of monetary benefit to the organization.
FORMAT:
The films may be shot in MPEG4 or AVI format. The recommended ratios are: 16:9 / 16:9 Full Height Anamorphic – in DV / HDV.
RIGHT TO SCREEN:
The participants grant the AKS and Other participating Communities rights to screen (non – commercial) their film/entry on their respective websites, at the festival and other associated screenings. Participating cities would get the digital contents soon after local juries judgement.
AKS and Other participating Communities screens films as digital files during the Festival and does NOT screen films on Blu-Ray, HD-CAM, or DCP.
AKS would retain the proprietorship of all the submitted entries and disallows the sharing of the movies by the filmmakers until the commencement and closure of all the events by Texas Short Film Festival for 2021.
INDEMNIFICATION: Participants agree to indemnify, defend and hold AKS harmless from any claim, expense or demand, made by any third party due to or arising out of your breach of this Agreement, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party. A Release of Liability Form (ROL) would signed for indemnification.
